How do trees help keep your house cooler?

  • Did you know that trees are not only beautiful, but they also act as a natural air conditioner that effectively reduces the heat around your house through these simple principles:

    • Direct Shading – Helps block sunlight from hitting the walls and the house directly, reducing heat accumulation.
    • Moisture Release – Trees naturally release water vapor, making the air around the house feel cooler and more comfortable.
    • Surface Temperature Reduction – Walls or fences covered by plants can lower surface temperatures by about 2–10°
    • Energy Saving – When the house is less hot, air conditioners don't have to work as hard to combat accumulated heat, resulting in lower electricity consumption and long-term savings

Most importantly, planting trees in the right locations—especially on the west and south sides—can effectively reduce the temperature around your house. For example, planting dense-leaved perennial trees on the west side helps block the harsh afternoon sun. Meanwhile, the area surrounding the house should be covered with grass or ground cover instead of pouring concrete, as soil and plants do not retain heat like concrete does.

Let's transform the space around our homes into green areas to keep them cool and comfortable, save energy, and support energy conservation goals together.
