Open Your Home to Savings: Simple, Low-Cost Ways to Save Energy
You can boost your home's savings without a huge investment, just by making a few simple adjustments to your habits.
- Open windows for natural light and air. Allowing natural light and air to circulate fully will make your home feel bright and cool, so you won't need to turn on the lights or air conditioning.
- Turn off and unplug appliances when not in use. Leaving appliances plugged in allows a small amount of electricity to flow even when not in use. Always remember to turn off and unplug them after you're finished.
- Switch to LED light bulbs. LED bulbs provide more light and have a longer lifespan than conventional bulbs. Most importantly, they are more environmentally friendly.
- Unplug mobile phones and electronics once they're fully charged. Leaving devices plugged in after their battery is full continues to consume electricity and increases the risk of an electrical short circuit.
- Set your air conditioner to an appropriate temperature. A comfortable 26 degrees Celsius is the ideal temperature, as it also helps save on electricity costs. You can also save energy by turning off the AC one hour before you leave the room.
- Choose appliances with a No. 5 energy-saving label. This label indicates the appliance's energy consumption level, efficiency, and estimated annual cost, helping you choose the right product and save money in the long run.
