Why Food Safety and Environment Go Hand in Hand

The food we consume every day plays a major role in shaping our environment. Since food is inherently tied to all of our lives, it offers a simple, everyday opportunity for each of us to protect the planet. By practicing mindful consumption, reducing food waste, sorting trash, and managing food waste properly, we can turn these small daily habits into a powerful collective effort. Together, we can minimize our environmental footprint and foster true global sustainability.
In celebration of the recent World Environment Day and World Food Safety Day, IMPACT has highlighted our commitment to planet care through the food we eat. We recently invited our employees to embark on a vital mission: “Safe Food, Good Planet,” driven by the core concept “From Climate to Food Safety Solutions.” Held at the Food Arena inside The Portal, this event featured three interactive activity booths designed to blend essential knowledge with high-energy fun.
Station 1: Sort It Right – Proper Segregation Turns Waste into Value
We invited everyone to learn effective waste management through a "waste hunting" activity that maps out the journey of turning trash into valuable resources. Guided by 5 Steps to Sustainability—Separate, Screen, Process, Value-Add, and Sustain—this station was built on our core belief: "Waste is not the end, but the beginning of something new.
Station 2: Safe Hands, Safe Planet – Food Safety Detectives
Employees stepped into the shoes of "Food Safety Detectives" to uncover clues and master the core principles of food safety. This station also featured hands-on training for the 7-step proper handwashing technique, ensuring excellent hygiene and a safer environment for everyone.
Station 3: Safe Food, Sustainable Future – Eating for a Happy Planet
Participants learned how to select ingredients, cook mindfully, and store food properly to help reduce their carbon footprint. This station emphasized that every stage of the food lifecycle—from production and transportation to cooking and waste management—directly impacts our world.
To encourage a sustainable lifestyle, attendees received eco-friendly souvenirs, including upcycled bottle-cap keychains, homegrown vegetable seedlings, and portable alcohol sprays. These keepsakes serve as a reminder to promote environmental care, good hygiene, and food safety every day.
IMPACT is dedicated to fostering sustainability and prioritizing proper food waste management through actions such as source segregation and utilizing food waste composters. Furthermore, we actively encourage our clients to minimize food waste throughout their event planning and execution processes. Our initiatives include promoting locally sourced ingredients to reduce carbon emissions from transportation, and precisely calculating catering portions to minimize leftovers.
